Bob Weaver and his family have lived at Shawnee Lake for seven years. They fell in love with the area, and what started out as a weekend cabin became their permanent home.
Internet access — at first just a luxury they could go without for their weekend visits — became a necessity.
“We had a couple of options. One was satellite-driven, and that didn’t work very well,” Bob said. “The other was a direct line to site, and that is currently what we have.”
Bob’s family uses the internet to watch TV, and they’re grateful to not have to wait for videos to buffer and for weather to not affect their connection.
But many Shawnee residents don’t have that line-to-site connection, leaving them with few options.
CVEC Fiber, a Cooperative Broadband Coalition member and subsidiary of Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative, plans to change that.
Bob holds a city commissioner position in Shawnee, and he’s excited to know that his constituents around the lake will finally have a choice for quality internet with CVEC Fiber.
“We’re fortunate to have an option. Some of them don’t… We are excited to know that CVEC Fiber is coming our way,” Bob said. “It’s going to change the lives of many people here at the lake and in this area.”
